Everything I Own, by Mycroft Computing is a
cool tool for really keeping track of everything you own. If you
think about it for a minute this program makes real sense. Think about
the things you own, the things you have in your house. Your computer,
your printer, your TV, your stereo, your toaster. What's the serial
number of your printer? Bet you don't know and that you can't find out
without doing contortions and looking at the manufacturers Web site.
Everything I Own makes it easy to put all the really
important information about all your stuff in one spot. Take the
printer. You can list the name, the serial number, the brand, the date
you bought it, what room it's located in, and so on. In testing out the
program I entered all the key things in my office in about ten minutes.
The program is really easy-to-use and intuitive, perfect for users with
all levels of experience. Oh, and if you want you can also include
pictures of your items as part of the individual record. So, for
example, you can include a picture of your computer sitting in your
office in with the basic information. Slick. Everything I Own has
a backup and restore function so you can backup your valuable data and
put in on a CD or DVD for safe keeping. In addition, you can print out
your entire database or just one or two records. This is the perfect
program for creating and maintaining a complete home inventory. In the
event of fire or theft, Everything I Own might be a real benefit
when dealing with insurance companies. So, if you'd really like to get
going on a home inventory, Everything I Own is your solution.
Give it a try.
Movie Label 2008, by Code|Aero
is a perfect solution for anyone who has a lot of movies and
would actually like to be able to find them. What I really like about
this product is that your movies can be in a wide range of formats. That
means you can catalog DVDs, VHS, and movies on your hard drive. That's
important because more and more you can download movies from a
number of sources. In many cases you aren't allowed to burn them to DVD
so they have to stay on your computer. Movie Label 2008 makes it
easy to quickly find exactly where a particular movie is. You can even
print out reports with information about your collection.
In testing
it out I found it to be easy-to-use and intuitive, perfect for users
will all levels of experience. One feature I really like is the ability
to keep track of loans. That's right, the program lets you keep
track of who you loaned a movie to so you can ask for it back. Slick.
The program also makes it really easy to search through your collection,
no matter how big it is, and find what you're looking for. There's also
a handy sort feature and you can sort your movies in a variety of ways.
Also, just as with music, information about movies is downloaded from a
database online so you don't have to enter everything manually. You can
also have more than one collection which is nice for dealing with
multiple people or just breaking your collection down into parts.
Movie Label 2008 is one of those programs that's easy-to-use, but
has a lot of power under the hood. So, if you have a lot of movies and
you'd really like to get a handle on them, take a good look at Movie
Label 2008. I recommend it.
Ashampoo Media Player+, by Ashampoo GmbH is a FREE
media player that will do everything you need it to do, and more. The
program is easy-to-use, intuitive, and has a great "look" to it. It can
handle a full range of audio and video files including WAV, MP3, MOD,
Ogg, AVI, MP1, and more. The program can also utilize plugins
which make it even more flexible.
Ashampoo Media Player+ makes it easy to burn music files to CD.
In testing it out I created playlists and then could transfer those to
CD with just a couple of mouse clicks. Really pretty slick. Another cool
feature that I really liked is the ability to adjust the volume of each
file, individually. I hate it when one song is too loud and then the
next song is too quiet. Working with Ashampoo Media Player I was
able to create a playlist, then adjust the volume level of each song so
I had a playlist that had pretty much equal volume on all tracks. Burned
a CD, played it in my car, and it was perfect! The program also utilizes
dynamic playlists which means your playlists display the contents
of actual folders on your computer. When you change the contents of the
folder, the contents of the playlist change as well. That means less
work. I found Ashampoo Media Player+ to be loaded with cool
features and you can't beat the fact that it's free! Looking for
an alternative music player? This might be your solution!
